While UMBI does not grant degrees, we provide research opportunities and support for more than 50 students enrolled in programs within other University System of Maryland degree-granting institutions. Center-level relationships with the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) allow students to pursue master's and doctoral studies in a variety of disciplines under the guidance of UMBI scientists as their graduate advisors.
At our Center of Marine Biotechnology (COMB) , students are working on graduate degrees in Molecular and Cell Biology (MOCB), Biochemistry, Biological Sciences and Marine Estuarine Environmental Sciences (MEES).
Graduate students at our Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology (CARB) primarily matriculate through the Molecular and Cell Biology Program (MOCB) program at UMCP.
Our Center for Biosystems Research (CBR) graduate students are also affiliated with MOCB, as well as Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics, Molecular and Cell Biology, BEES (Behavior, Ecology, Evolution, and Systematics), and Entomology at UMCP.
At our Medical Biotechnology Center (MBC) , students come from several graduate programs at the UMB, most notably the Graduate Program in Life Sciences (GPILS), which incorporates the traditional disciplines of genetics, immunology, molecular and cell biology, neuroscience, pathology, pharmacology, physiology and toxicology into a revitalized structure.
