Faculty positions are those in a research or teaching capacity.

Exempt positions are managerial, administrative and professional in nature. They are salaried positions that are not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Nonexempt positions are support staff positions in clerical/secretarial, technical/para-professional and maintenance/service areas. These positions are subject to the minimum wage and overtime pay provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees in these positions must be paid overtime for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week. Application instructions for Nonexempt positions. Applicants must indicate the specific position and job code in order to be considered. If applying for multiple positions, copies of applications (with original signature) may be submitted.

Contingent Category II positions are appointed for a term of greater than six months, but no more than twelve months. They may be Nonexempt or Exempt category. A minimum level of benefits is guaranteed for Contingent Category II employees, and additional benefits may be negotiated at the discretion of the UMBI Unit. Contingent Category II vacancies require a competitive selection process. For Nonexempt categories, follow these application instructions.

Contingent Category I positions are hourly positions (Nonexempt or Exempt) that are seasonal or intermittent in nature, and are appointed for a duration of six months or less. Benefits are not available for Contingent Category I employees. UMBI Units may hire a Contingent Category I employee without a competitive selection process as long as minimum qualifications are met.

Student positions are paid employment or unpaid internships in research labs, information technology, or office administration. These may be at thehigh school, college undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral level.
