The Maryland Loaner Lab (MDLL) is a resource for Maryland high school science teachers that brings a variety of investigations to the classroom. These activities are aligned with the Maryland State Department of Education's Core Learning Goals and provide teachers with the information and resources necessary for teaching core concepts and conducting hands-on experiments in biotechnology. MDLL allows qualified Maryland science teachers to borrow cutting-edge bioscience equipment FREE of charge.
Lab Activities
The MDLL offers eight different laboratory activities. Each activity, called a kit, contains teacher manuals, student protocols, equipment, supplies and reagents necessary for labs. Kits are designed for 10 work stations of 1-4 students each in the classroom. Click here for a list of activities.
You may also borrow equipment and supplies without requesting a specific lab kit.
Shipping of kits
Kits are shipped to and from schools via FedEx at no charge to the schools.
Loan Period
Kits are loaned out for a 10-day period, only one kit at a time. Kit requests are taken in advance for reservations of specific dates. A minimum of three weeks notice is required for processing.
Eligibility
Teachers must have attended a lab skills training program through either MdBioLab or UMBI to be eligible to borrow from the MDLL program. Click here to learn how to access our training program. The MDLL is currently available to all high schools in Maryland.
