Learn more about algae with IMET graduate student Kia Ramarui. The algae Kia studies has the ability to produce large amounts of antioxidants. Under stress, the algae produces astaxanthin, a bright red antioxidant. Astaxanthin is great for nutrition and is a wonderful natural pigment. Its uses range from cosmetics to aquaculture feed to supplements. As our populations continue to grow, its necessary to explore alternative nutrient sources for our people, crops, livestock and aquaculture. Algae could be this sustainable solution.
